Tool released the album Fear Inoculum a 13-year wait, and it seems the group doesn't want to wait that long for their next album. In an interview with Metal Hammer , drummer Danny Carey revealed that he has "several" songs for the album's successor.

“We’re going to be touring for two or three years, I think (…) I hope we can make another album soon. We have a lot of material. We can’t wait another 12 years to make another one, I’ll be too old and probably won’t be able to pick up the drumsticks anymore.”

Fear Inoculum marked the end of the group's five-album contract with the record label, and now, according to Carey, they are "free from agents" and can "do whatever they want." He also said that the band is currently motivated to work.
