Tool guitarist Adam Jones has shared a demo of the track "Descending" from the 2019 Fear Inoculum
Jones also wrote about the songwriting process, “Writing songs, Justin [ Chancellor ] and I usually bring potential riffs and demos – then the three of us tear them apart like wolves, while [ Danny Carey ] shakes it up with super drumming in the opposite rhythm (which really drives everything forward). Justin brought this fantastic 7-beat melody, which is now the main verse of the song. (He called it “bluegrass” as the title in progress)”
“We spent a LOT of time trying to find other cool parts that would work. Eventually, I added the 9beat and a chorus. Then we arranged the intro – which came about very naturally over time. The two guitars were recorded on the left and right, so feel free to use headphones,” the guitarist concluded.
