The musician reveals that many songs were left unplayed due to Ozzy's voice
Tony Iommi, guitarist for Black Sabbath, spoke with Guitar World about the process of choosing the band's setlist during their farewell tour, The End.
He explains that the band's latest album, 13 , wasn't included in the setlist because they wanted to play the classic songs. When asked which tracks he would most like to play, Iommi revealed that it wasn't possible due to Ozzy Osbourne's voice.
"I wanted to play songs we haven't played in years, like 'Hole in the Sky' or 'Symptom of the Universe,' but we could only play songs that Ozzy can still sing.".
I'm not belittling him. We recorded those songs over 30 years ago, and the notes were very high, so there's no way he could have reached them. But it would have been cool to have them on the setlist.”
The guitarist also spoke about what it was like to say goodbye to the band, “It was a little sad. We’ve known each other for a long time and many people came to see us from all over the world, and you could see them crying in the audience. It was a very sad experience.”
