Read the letter written by Tony Iommi
Guitarist Tony Iommi sent a letter yesterday to Indonesian President Joko Widodo , asking him to suspend the death sentence for two Australians accused of drug trafficking. Widodo, elected last year, is a metal fan and has already received a letter from Napalm Death frontman Barney Greenway for the same reason.
Check out Tony Iommi's letter below:
Your Excellency,
I am writing to plead with you to grant clemency to Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran.
I understand and respect the desire to combat drug trafficking in Indonesia, and this is a problem for all countries in the world.
I witnessed firsthand the negative impact that drugs have on people and their families. That's why I understand your harsh perspective on this matter. The Indonesian prison system has been successful in transforming Andrew and Myuran.
I am appealing to you, as a godly man, to notice this transformation. They are now changed men who are making a positive difference in the lives of their fellow inmates.
The fact that they have turned around is a great credit to the Indonesian authorities. Therefore, I ask that you annul the execution of Andrew and Myuran. Please allow them to serve life sentences so that they can contribute to the well-being of Indonesia and atone for their past actions. I hope you will consider this personal request.
Tony Iommi,
guitarist, Black Sabbath”
