James Hetfield , lead singer of Metallica , checked into a rehabilitation clinic last weekend , resulting in the cancellation and rescheduling of the Worldwired in Australia and New Zealand.
The band announced the news, and since then, several artists have responded to the event. Slipknot, who were scheduled to open for the band on this Oceania tour, published a message of support Tony Iommi 's turn , the guitarist of Black Sabbath.
“My thoughts are with James Hetfield. You did the right thing in seeking help. I'm thinking of you, my friend, and wishing you all the best in your recovery. I hope to see you well soon. Your friend, Tony.”
Hetfield and Iommi's friendship is long-standing; in fact, in 2006 Metallica was invited to induct Black Sabbath into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. See the guitarist's post below.
