In an interview with producer Rick Rubin , Ozzy Osbourne spoke about his Black Sabbath . Regarding Tony Iommi , the vocalist said that the guitarist still scares him to this day.
“Geezer is great, a great lyricist. As a bassist, nobody is better than him,” says Ozzy. “Bill, in his time, was a great drummer. Tony will always be the best of all.”
He talked about almost losing Iommi to Jethro Tull .
“We played with Jethro Tull and they offered him a spot in the band. I thought, 'oh no, now he's going to leave.' Because Tony is something else. There's nobody on the face of the earth who creates riffs like him.”
For over 50 years, Ozzy has still considered Tony a mentor. “People ask me why I sing on the side of the stage,” Ozzy said. “I don’t know, I think it’s fear. Because Tony is one of the few people in the world who could come in here right now and I’d feel intimidated. He scares me too much – and he knows it.”.
