Tony Iommi says he's amazed Keith Richards is still alive

Black Sabbath ended their career in 2017

Tony Iommi , guitarist for Black Sabbath , says he is "amazed" that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones is still alive.

In an interview with The Herald , Iommi spoke about the losses of rock icons in recent years. When asked why some musicians of Iommi's generation survive and others don't, he said, "I don't know. I've seen many of my friends who used drugs and died, like John Bonham of Led Zeppelin . John was a good friend. I've seen other friends go in a similar way, through drugs and alcohol abuse."

“You’re alone. Bored in the hotel, so you try to find something to do. Like Lemmy from Motörhead . He was the symbol of rock n’ roll. […] Even Keith Richards, I’m amazed. I take my hat off to him.”

Iommi was diagnosed with cancer in late 2011 and is currently in remission. Black Sabbath ended their 49-year career in 2017.
