Heavy metal has gained prominence in the list of birthday honors for King Charles III. Guitarist Tony Iommi, founder of Black Sabbath, and Rod Smallwood, manager of Iron Maiden, are among the names recognized in the 2026 edition of the traditional King's Birthday Honours.
Tony Iommi has been awarded the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to music and charity. The honor comes a year after Black Sabbath's historic farewell concert in Birmingham.
Rod Smallwood has been appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE). The manager has been with Iron Maiden since the late 1970s and played a key role in transforming the band into one of the biggest names in rock history. The honor also recognizes his philanthropic work through the Truants Foundation [via Music Week].
Another name linked to the music industry who was honored was Nadia Khan. The executive received the MBE title for her work advocating for women in the music industry.
