A few weeks ago, Mötley Crüe kicked off their North American tour and gave fans a scare when Tommy Lee announced he wouldn't finish the set due to four broken ribs.
The drummer said he ignored medical advice to go on tour and was promptly replaced at that time by Tommy Clufetos , who now continues to take over parts of the set so as not to overburden his colleague.
At the time, Tommy Lee said he didn't have an exciting story to tell about the injury, but he didn't give details about what had happened. Recently, however, his wife Brittany Furlan posted a series of videos on Snapchat clarifying what happened.
According to Furlan's account, the family spent a few days in a rented house in Nashville. The place was rather old and, according to her, had stone steps that were "very uneven" because the roots of a nearby tree were pushing them upwards. "I myself fell down those stairs a few times while carrying groceries," she says.
“The day we were leaving Nashville, our driver arrived and didn’t help us with the bags we were carrying. He just stayed in the car, so Tommy was trying to carry all our luggage. And he fell down that crazy staircase and broke four ribs. Not injured, not fractured – broken. It was insane because I went to help and he couldn’t breathe. It was very scary,” she recounts.
According to Tommy Lee's wife, the drummer flew to Pennsylvania, went to the hospital, and still participated in tour rehearsals that same day. "They wanted to keep him in the hospital, but he didn't want to stay. He's the toughest guy I know. You know, look at all the tattoos he has. He really fights through pain," she concluded.
Currently, Mötley Crüe is on tour with Def Leppard , Poison , and Joan Jett and the Blackhearts . In an interview with a Chilean radio program, guitarist Phil Collen teased fans by stating that Def Leppard intends to tour South America in 2023 and that there's a possibility of bringing the other bands along – especially Mötley Crüe. To date, nothing has been officially confirmed.
