Soon, a box set containing exclusive Tom Petty material will be released. Titled An American Treasure , the collection will feature 60 tracks from the singer's extensive career, including early Heartbreakers and more recent studio recordings.
“You and Me” is one of the tracks that had alternative versions recorded but never officially released – until now. The song is part of the album The Last DJ (2002) and today, you can listen to a different recording that Petty made for it.
The release of the version was accompanied by a video tribute to the musician. In it, we see some scenes of Petty mixed with photos sent by fans of the legendary singer. Watch the video below.
An American Treasure will be released on September 28th by Reprise Records, and its material was carefully selected by his daughter Adria and wife Dana, along with former Heartbreakers bandmates Benmont Tench and Mike Campbell , as well as Ryan Ulyate , a longtime collaborator of the musician.
Tom Petty was found unconscious at home on October 2, 2017. A few months later, an autopsy revealed that he had died from an accidental overdose . Petty had spent years taking medication for body aches and pains.
