Tom Morello releases new single “Soldier in the Army of Love” featuring his 13-year-old son.

The guitarist described the song as a "Morellos rock anthem."

Tom Morello , guitarist for the band Rage Against the Machine , has released "Soldier in the Army of Love," his newest solo single co-written with his son Roman Morello. The song is part of his first solo rock album and is scheduled for release later this year.

In an interview with Guitar Interactive Magazine, the guitarist spoke about the release (transcribed via Blabbermouth ): “That’s a killer guitar solo. I wish I could say it was me. During lockdown, when everyone else was baking bread, my son Roman was working eight hours a day.”

Morello also expressed his pride in seeing his son participating in the production:

“One day I was walking past his room and he was playing these amazing heavy Drop D riffs. I was like, ‘What is this?’ And he was like, ‘I just made it up.’ ‘Dad, do you think these riffs fit together?’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I think they fit together.’ And then we made this song, ‘Soldier In The Army Of Love,’ he wrote the riffs. I produced it and kind of played on it. But the guitar solo is his too. And so, with Father’s Day coming up, I’m very, very proud to be making probably the heaviest song I’ve released in a while, and it’s with my 13-year-old son.”

New album

The musician shared more details about the production of the new album: “I’ve made a lot of solo records, but this is the one that really has pure rock. I’ve done alternative and electronic collaborations and folk music albums. But this is a solo rock album, and 'Soldier In The Army Of Love' is a very fitting first single for it.”

Speaking about the direction of the new work, it will bring the unmistakable and classic sound of his guitar playing, but it also seeks inspiration from a rock classic, Bruce Springsteen 's Darkness on the Edge of Town , released in 1978.
