Tom Morello , guitarist for Rage Against the Machine , will be one of the special guests attending Black Sabbath's farewell show .
Titled Back to the Beginning , the event is scheduled for June 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, and will mark the band's final performance with its four original members, in a tribute to Ozzy Osbourne and heavy metal.
As one of the festival organizers, Morello revealed that the invitation to "headline" the event came from Ozzy himself, along with his wife, Sharon Osbourne (via Australian Musician ):
“It happened because Ozzy and Sharon asked me to do it. They surprised me one day and said, 'There's going to be one more Black Sabbath show, all four original members, Ozzy Osbourne's last show. We want to have a big celebration day, can you help organize it?' And I was like, 'well, that's crazy. But yeah, sure.' Heavy metal is the genre that made me love music, and Black Sabbath invented heavy metal.”
Tom Morello reveals what fans can expect from the event.
In an interview with journalist Greg Phillips , Morello expressed great excitement for the band's final performance. After all, he said he was "indebted to Ozzy and Black Sabbath" and that "it will be an honor to participate in their last show."
“First of all, when we first sat down, we had a very, very simple goal, which is to make this the greatest day in the history of heavy metal. And to that end, you’ve probably seen the setlist listed.”
In addition to a powerful setlist, the guitarist commented on the appearance of special guests at the event:
"And let me tell you, there are some big superstars who will also be surprises that day. So, the idea is really to acknowledge the importance of that band in a way that the whole world will know forever."
