Tom Morello commented during an interview with NME (via Blabbermouth ) about his curious friendship with Ted Nugent , a conservative musician who openly supports the far right.

The Rage Against the Machine and left-wing activist said that it's "important to maintain an open dialogue with people you disagree with." He continued, "I give myself the right to be friends with anyone. I give myself the right to confront opinions I disagree with, with sincerity and love, or by throwing a brick. It's up to me."

“In Ted’s case, I know he’s become a caricature of the right wing , but I’ve spoken to him several times about issues that might surprise you. But he’s still Uncle Ted, the crazy guy who talks all sorts of nonsense.”

Morello also said that it's important to "maintain an open dialogue with people you disagree with, especially in this global community full of disagreements. Sometimes, it's equally important to block them."
