It's no secret that Tom Morello , guitarist for Rage Against The Machine , has never been afraid to express his political opinions. The artist spoke out against the President of the United States, Donald Trump, during his performance at the Boston Calling Festival 2025 .
The reason for Morello's criticism of the president is the dispute between Trump and Bruce Springsteen . He allegedly accused several artists, including Springsteen, Bono , Beyoncé , and Oprah Winfrey, of accepting campaign money to support Kamala Harris in 2024.
“Bruce is going after Trump because Bruce, his whole life, has been about truth, justice, democracy, and equality,” he declared to the thousands present at the festival. “And Trump is upset with him because Bruce attracts a bigger audience. Fuck that guy!”
Morello, who has collaborated extensively with Springsteen in the past, said that this could be the “last big event before they throw us all in jail.” The guitarist’s stage banner read “Fuck Trump.” On the back of his guitar was written “Fuck ICE ” ( ICE , Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is a department of the DHS , Department of Homeland Security , that detains, deports, and convicts illegal immigrants in the United States).
Other artists who criticized Trump
Besides Morello, other rock musicians have joined the fray, including Neil Young . The artist implored Trump to “stop thinking about what rock musicians are saying. Think about saving the United States from the mess you created,” via BCR .
Another notable artist who joined the discussion was Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam . He said that Springsteen has always been "pro-American, with its values and freedom," that he has always been a fair person, whose "justice has always remained intact." He claims that these words served to keep this freedom of expression alive "in a year or two when we return to this microphone," according to MSNBC .
