The guitarist believes that both presidents are demagogues.
Tom Morello , of Prophets Of Rage , discussed politics in a new interview with NME . During the conversation, he called President Jair Bolsonaro a "populist fascist" and criticized Donald Trump and Brexit.
He said: “I think these are symptoms of people feeling left behind by the global economy. Donald Trump offers an easy [solution]—and not just Trump; I think Brexit as well, and in Brazil they have a right-wing populist fascist in power. People who are left behind by neoliberal policies—white and working-class people, generally—are susceptible to demagogues who use racism and anti-immigrant sentiment to manipulate them, so they don't focus on the real problem, which is a system that doesn't deserve this planet.”
“Those who dominate and manage this planet don’t deserve it, and they are destroying it. They are creating a miserable environmental and economic situation for many people. Now, one of the reasons we’ve been making music for so long is to offer an alternative set of ideals—like progressive politics, solidarity, environmental sanity, anti-racism, anti-fascism—as another way to deal with life’s inequalities, instead of listening to some orange-faced demagogue saying it’s all the fault of Muslims, of Mexicans. Trust me, it’s not. It’s his fault! [laughs]”
