Tobias Forge , leader and vocalist of Ghost , spoke in an interview with Overdrive about the reasons that led him to agree to perform on stage at Black Sabbath 's Back To The Beginning without his band. The main reasons are related to financial and logistical issues for the chosen artists.

The event will take place on July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, United Kingdom, the hometown of Black Sabbath. The city will host the final show of the metal founders with their original members.

When questioned about his involvement, Forge clarified (via Blabbermouth.net ) :

“The only thing I can really tell you, from what I understand, is that the bands that will be participating as full bands are generally bands that will be touring at that time. Whereas many of the artists who will be performing individually are those who won't have their full band available at the time. We in Ghost are one of those; we'll be about to start our US tour, like, two days after that or something like that. So it was impossible for our entire entourage. We couldn't do it. Especially economically, it was unfeasible. It wouldn't work.”.

“So, my job here, my mission, the gift I received, which I feel very proud to be a part of, is to play with — I don’t know — some of the people who will be playing there. What I do know is that some other musicians will also be doing it. I think we’re being put together in impromptu groups to play music, which is phenomenal.”.

Back to the Beginning

Just like Tobias Forge – in the guise of Papa V Perpetua – who will perform at Black Sabbath's last show with the original members, other artists and bands will be present at the event: Metallica, Tool, Slayer, Anthrax, among other renowned bands, will be there.

In addition to the bands, there will be a show with a "supergroup of musicians" which includes: Duff McKagan, Tom Morello, Chad Smith and many other names.
