Tobias Forge , of Ghost , marked a rare moment in his career by taking the stage and performing without a mask or face paint.
Tobias's unannounced appearance took place last Friday, the 10th, at the SAAB Arena in Linköping, Sweden. The Ghost vocalist made a surprise appearance at the show of Swedish singer-songwriter Lars Winnerbäck , playing guitar and providing backing vocals on the song "Dunkla Rum" from 2003.
The fans in attendance got a rare glimpse of Tobias performing without his signature attire, which is a fundamental part of his band Ghost's image. Forge's identity was kept secret until 2017, when former Ghost members sued him, forcing him to reveal his identity.
In a recent interview with Dealer 2 Metal , Tobias commented on losing his anonymity [Transcript via Blabbermouth ]: “I never really felt anonymous before, because in a micro-format, I was, to some extent, known within a very, very, very specific small group of people who liked old-school death metal, who knew who I was. And that group remains united. Everyone talks to each other.”
“So, as soon as Ghost came along, everyone knew who was in Ghost. And so I never felt like, ‘Oh, before the spring of 2017, I was completely unknown. And then I became a really well-known person.’ I’m not a well-known person. Maybe a lot of people know about Ghost, but people in general don’t know who I am,” the vocalist concluded.
