Tim Lambesis: "My life now is about undoing the suffering I caused."

Tim Lambesis, of As I Lay Dying fame, was arrested for hiring a hitman to kill his wife

As I Lay Dying vocalist Tim Lambesis said his life's work now is to undo the suffering he caused. Lambesis was arrested for hiring a hitman to kill his wife.

In May 2014, the singer was sentenced to six years in prison after pleading guilty to hiring a police officer to kill his wife. Approximately two and a half years later – in December 2016 – he was released and transferred to a probation unit.

In June of this year, As I Lay Dying played their first show with Lambesis in five years and released a new single . He also took responsibility for the crimes in a lengthy apology on Facebook.

Last month, the band completed a US tour and is currently on a European tour. Before a show in Munich this Saturday, December 8th, Lambesis once again used Facebook to address the issue. He said he has been rebuilding his life and dedicating himself to the principles of honesty.

He wrote:

I am against who I was in my past. I am pursuing a new purpose with the rebirth of AILD. We are doing it collectively.

People who support AILD aren't supporting the person I was. Part of my life now is undoing the suffering I caused and helping others who also have addictions. Instead, I think AILD fans are supporting the belief that people can change.

I'll never be able to undo my biggest mistakes, but I believe it's better to do something than to give up.

AILD collectively condemns any form of domestic abuse and violence. Its consequence is intense and lasting pain. There are no acceptable excuses or defenses for such behavior. Our goal as a band is to actively work with organizations that offer support to those who suffer, whether from a history of abuse, hardship, or psychological illness. Proactive recovery and healing are at the core of what this band is now.

Today we're putting on the biggest show of our career. Our fans didn't know this when they bought their tickets, but we'll be donating a portion of the proceeds. The HeartSupport organization provides emotional support for young adults struggling with addiction, depression, and sexual abuse.

Now, we don't want to lose sight of our purpose at our most important moment. We've been given a second chance that we thought we'd never have. We value that.”

In October, the Resurrection festival removed As I Lay Dying from the lineup for the next edition.
