Tim Lambesis , lead singer As I Lay Dying , has publicly responded to recent statements made by his ex-wife, Dany Ciara .
Ciara detailed allegations of abuse, infidelity, and toxic behavior during her marriage to Tim Lambesis on an episode of the BREWtally Speaking in late December [via ThePRP ]. In the nearly 4-hour conversation, she explained how the relationship started intensely and quickly escalated into profound difficulties.
Dany described a courtship that began on social media and evolved into a Las Vegas wedding in just a few weeks. "I felt like I was on cloud nine, like everything was too perfect to be true—and it turned out to be," she confessed. About six months later, things deteriorated after she discovered infidelity on Lambesis's part, which, according to her, created a volatile and emotionally draining period in their marriage.
Dany Ciara details moments of abuse
Throughout the conversation, Ciara made accusations of emotional manipulation, surveillance, and controlling behavior within the home, in addition to reporting that home cameras were used against her in conflict situations, with audio taken out of context to portray her negatively. “He pushed me and grabbed my cell phone from my hand. He recorded this video and silenced it. He removed the audio so that no one could hear that I was yelling at him, that I knew he was cheating on me. So I looked like a completely crazy person, without any context.”.
She also commented on episodes of escalating physical tensions, including attempts to defend herself with a knife when she felt threatened. “I would say I pointed a knife at him more than once. There was a cycle where things escalated and I felt it was going to happen. There were signs that I knew when things were going to get physical. And it started with Tim immobilizing me, putting all his body weight on me, preventing me from breathing. I screamed for help,” Dany recounted. “I wanted to contextualize this situation because I feel I have the right to defend myself from him, and I don't know why he doesn't believe I did, but I did.”.
She also alleged that she found AI-generated images of disturbing sexual content on Lambesis's phone, in addition to being forced to have sex, which, according to her, further undermined her confidence and sense of security in the relationship. “If I said I didn't feel like it [having sex], it would turn into a fight… Then I'd end up crying in the bathroom, feeling disgusted with myself. There was a time when he was making AI-generated pornography on his phone… Even if he hadn't created it, he was saving it.”
For now, no legal action has been announced. “I just want to tell my truth and move on with my life. I will not bow down to him. I will not be afraid anymore,” she said.
Tim Lambesis refutes accusations
Lambesis' response, made through a statement on his social media and later deleted, criticizes the way the accusations were presented without full context [via Loudwire ].
In the publication, Lambesis stated that he remained silent for a long period to avoid mixing his personal life with his artistic work. However, he only decided to speak now because, according to him, "old stories always resurface when my life and career move forward again." He argued that removing the context of events makes it easier to create one-sided narratives and said that any legal issues would have been handled through appropriate channels if they were true.
The musician also suggested that criticism and comments about his relationship are opportunistic. Furthermore, he stated that some people appear precisely when he is trying to resume his career and that he prefers to focus on his work and new music. Lambesis concluded by asking everyone to leave the past behind , emphasizing that he intends to move forward with the production of the next album and the resumption of the band's activities.
Lambesis' reaction comes amid a backdrop marked by videos showing tense moments between him and Ciara, as well as accusations of erratic behavior that have circulated among fans and critics since 2024, when recordings of personal confrontations leaked online and contributed to the departure of members from the band's previous lineup.
Layoffs at As I Lay Dying
In October 2024, the band lost guitarist Phil Sgrosso , drummer Nick Pierce , guitarist Ken Susi , and bassist Ryan Neff , resulting in only vocalist and co-founder Tim Lambesis remaining. This led the group to cancel their Latin American tour scheduled for March 2025.
Furthermore, lead singer Tim Lambesis has also been associated with multiple controversies, episodes of violence, and criminal charges, including an arrest in 2014 after allegedly ordering the murder of his ex-wife .
Sentenced to six years in prison in May of that year after pleading guilty, he was released approximately two and a half years later, in December 2016. In June 2018, the band played its first show with the vocalist, after releasing a video explaining the group's return .
Recently, As I Lay Dying released their new single “Echoes,” the first track with their new lineup. Besides the only original member, Tim Lambesis, on vocals, the new lineup features Brazilian guitarist Bill Hudson , Chris Clancy on bass, Don Vedda on guitar, and Tim Yeung on drums.
Currently, the band is preparing for a European tour taking place in October and November of this year. Billed as "one night with As I Lay Dying," the tour celebrates the 20th anniversary of their third album, Shadows Are Security (2005).
