Three Days Grace officially announced (via Instagram ) the return of their original vocalist, Adam Gontier , after 11 years. The Canadian band will now have two vocalists in its lineup. Matt Walst , the vocalist who replaced Adam, remains in the group.

Adam left the band in 2013 on the eve of the tour to promote the album Transit Of Venus , according to him due to "creative differences". The band then called Matt, brother of bassist Brad Walst , to fill the vacancy left by the vocalist.

The announcement of their return began on the 2nd, with a teaser video of a voicemail message from Adam to Matt, asking him to let everyone in the band know that he's arriving at the studio soon. Watch the video below:

The announcement

The following day, the 3rd, the band posted a photo announcing Adam's return and stating that new music and tours would be announced soon. See the post with the announcement:

Also in the publication, some notes from Adam and Matt talk about the news. Gontier's note says: “I feel like it was perfect, better than we expected. It's like we went back to a room together and continued where we left off. We've been friends for so long that it's natural to go back to the same place together.”

Walst's statement goes further and talks about a new album with the unprecedented lineup: “It’s been so much fun and inspiring making this record. Bringing together over 20 years of Three Days Grace and doing something no band has ever done before. I’m thrilled for the fans to hear it.”

The band's lineup, in addition to the vocalists, includes guitarist Barry Stock , bassist Brad Walst, and Neil Sanderson on drums. The expectation is that Adam and Matt will alternate between vocals and guitar, as both previously played rhythm guitar in the group.

The trajectory of Three Days Grace with and without Adam.

The band was formed in Ontario, Canada in 1997 with Adam, Brad, and Neil, all remaining members of the band Groundswell. After the band moved to Toronto in 2003, Barry Stock was recruited to the group, giving rise to its classic lineup.

Also in 2003, the group released their debut album, the self-titled Three Days Grace , which featured the band's most famous song, "I Hate Everything About You." The track became famous in Brazil for being part of the soundtrack of the defunct teen soap opera, Malhação , on Rede Globo .

Remember the famous song “I Hate Everything About You”:

In 2006, the group released One-X , the band's most successful album in terms of international sales. Some of the lyrics were written by Adam while he was in rehab for Oxycodone use. The album includes the singles "Animal I Have Become," "Pain," "Never Too Late," and "Riot." With Gontier on vocals, the group also released Life Starts Now in 2009 and Transit Of Venus in 2012, boosted by the single "Chalk Outline."

Adam's departure

After Adam's departure in January 2013, the band called Brad's brother, Matt Walst, who sang in the band My Darkest Days , as a temporary vocalist for the tour with the bands Shinedown and POD , and in March of the following year, Matt would be made the official vocalist.

With Walst on vocals, the band released 3 albums: Human in 2015; Outsider in 2017 and Explosions in 2022. Despite having great singles like “Painkiller”, “I Am Machine” and “Right Left Wrong” , the band did not reach the same sales figures as with Gontier. Similarly, Adam also did not achieve the same visibility he had with Three Days Grace with his new band, the supergroup Saint Asonia , which included members of Staind , Finger Eleven and Dark New Day .

The signs of a meeting

In July 2022, the Walst brothers were inducted into Hall of Honor along with another classmate, Adam Gontier. The reunion of the three at their old school was crucial for the resumption of communication between the former bandmates.

Back in 2023, Three Days Grace and Gontier would once again share the same stage. The vocalist was invited to participate in the songs "Never Too Late" and "Riot" during a show in Alabama in April of that year. The encounter fueled fans' speculation about a possible collaboration between Three Days Grace and Saint Asonia.

In an interview (via Loudwire Nights ) at the time, Gontier commented on his participation in the show: “It was great, man. It had been so long. In the last year or so, we talked a lot about getting together, doing this kind of thing. It was pretty amazing to sing some songs on stage with those guys. We hadn't been in the same room together for about 10 years. It was a really incredible moment, for sure.”

A concert-goer since way back when (does a Sandy & Junior concert count?). Born into a "Heavy Rock" cradle (thanks, Dad). A teenager during the Nu Metal era. Shaped by the scrapes and bruises of the Curitiba underground mosh pits. A poser of mainstream bands. Today, a renowned (in my wife's eyes) sommelier of Metal in general. An unrestrained individual in the creation of useless Spotify playlists and with a suspicious taste for other musical genres (who doesn't like the Backstreet Boys?). Former vocalist of several imaginary bands. I love concerts so much that my son was even born at one (Metallica 2022 Curitiba), and envious people will say it was planned. The worst insult I ever committed was calling someone a pagodeiro (a type of Brazilian samba singer). And yes! I know Manowar.
