In a team that lives and breathes music, thankfully, not everyone has similar musical tastes.
Wikimetal members will curate the songs, artists, and albums that best define their current musical taste. Our editor and head of our music label, Pétala .
“Growing up in a house with very eclectic tastes ranging from Brazilian Popular Music (MPB) to pop and even heavy metal, I understood from a young age that to understand music and its history, regardless of genre, delving into metal and its subgenres was mandatory homework,” Pétala recounts. “Although I didn't have such a clear education throughout my life, rock and its diverse sounds have always been with me. As a big fan of the 70s, sonically and aesthetically in general, I was captivated very early on by Patti Smith , The Rolling Stones , David Bowie , and Fleetwood Mac , who transformed themselves on stage and, through their art, influenced so many in many artistic fields. The 'new' rock sound presented by Linkin Park, Jack White, The White Stripes, The Black Keys , and even Arctic Monkeys was also vital in this construction of musical knowledge.”
“It was in 2020 that I joined the famous school for heavy metal beginners called Wikimetal , have you heard of it? I recommend it! And there I saw Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Metallica and so many others as daily companions, observing and reporting on events and experiencing for the first time the power of this genre. Sabbath, in particular, always resonated more with me sonically, and also due to the influence of a close friend who is an unconditional fan of Ozzy Osbourne (who isn't, right?)”, he shares. “Finally, this year, I had the opportunity to get even closer to heavy metal and rock by taking care of the Wikimetal Music and ForMusic Records and closely observing the creation and passion of works from both worlds by names like Impavid Colossus, Val Santos, Johnny Monster, The Velvicks among others, and that's why they couldn't be left out of my selection!”
From The Doors to Elton John , and from The Velvet Underground to Joni Mitchell , check out Pétala's playlist below – and listen to the selection on Deezer here.
