The Yagas , the band of Oscar - Vera Farmiga, announces their debut album, Midnight Minuet , to be released on April 25th.
In addition to Vera Farmiga on vocals, the band features Renn Hawkey (formerly of Deadsy ) on keyboards, Jason Bowman on drums, Mark Visconti on guitar, and Mike Davis on bass.
The single “The Crying Room,” which serves as a prelude to the album, was released on October 25, 2024, and is partially inspired by the suffering of the actress's family following the conflicts between Russia and Ukraine. The music video for the track features Eugene Hüttz from the band GoGol Bordello , both of Ukrainian descent, who share the vocal performance in the video.
Another single, “Life of A Widow”, was released on March 26th, as part of the news surrounding the new album. The track has a distinct sound and was created after Renn woke up from spinal surgery. The keyboardist highlights the personal importance of the new work for him: [ transcription via Blabbermouth ] “Producing Midnight Minuet was very cathartic for me,” says Renn. “I felt the need to prove to myself that I can produce good music outside of Deadsy.”
Taking their name from the Slavic child-devouring witch, Baba Yaga, the band was formed in 2023 after the five members met and played together on the Rock Academy , a music school in Woodstock run by Jason Bowman.
