Last week, Wikimetal reported the dismissal of drummer Zak Starkey from The Who.

The drummer, son of Ringo Starr, was a member of the touring band for 29 years and was fired after reports of disagreements with singer Roger Daltrey.

Now The Who have rehired Starkey, and guitarist and founding member Pete Townshend has taken "responsibility for part of the confusion."

Last Saturday, April 19th, the guitarist announced Starkey's return on the band's official website and social media, writing:

“Breaking news! Who supports Zak? He is not being asked to leave The Who.

There have been some communication issues, personal and private, on all sides, that needed to be resolved, and these issues have been joyfully resolved.

Roger and I would like Zak to refine his more recent and evolved drumming style to suit our non-orchestral setup, and he readily agreed. I take responsibility for part of the confusion. Our TCT shows at the Royal Albert Hall were a bit tricky for me. I thought four and a half weeks would be enough time to fully recover from a complete knee replacement. (Why did I think I might fall on my knees?) Wrong!

Perhaps we didn't dedicate enough time to soundchecks, which caused us problems on stage. The sound in the center of the stage is always the hardest to work with. Roger did nothing wrong other than fiddling with his in-ear monitors. Zak made some mistakes and apologized. Although with "A rubber duck drummer.

We're a family, this blew up very quickly and got a lot of oxygen. It's over. Now we move on with optimism and a burning desire.

As for Roger, fans can enjoy his upcoming solo shows with his fabulous drummer, Scott Devours, who, according to rumors, could replace Zak in The Who and has always supported the band.
I owe Scott an apology for not debunking that rumor before it spread. He was hurt by it. I promise to buy him a long drink and give him a hug.
Pete Townshend"
