The work should be released soon

Tool took full advantage of April Fool's Day to scare their fans. On April Fool's Day, the band decided it would be a good idea to play a prank on their highly anticipated album.

Maynard James Keenan joked on his social media that he would be bringing Sammy Hagar to help them with the album recording process. Later, the group posted an image that appeared to be a video of them in the studio. Those who fell for the joke clicked on the image expecting to watch the video but were tricked, as it was just a still image from a video.

The joke got a little more serious when guitarist Adam Jones posted a video on his Instagram with the caption: “Okay, here’s a new Tool song. Just recorded the drums and bass. Don’t judge the sound, it’s not mixed yet.” Despite the “new song” only having a guitar riff, the video showed quite a bit of the band's recording process.

But they weren't just teasing. Later, Tool released seven photos of them in the studio, including an image of Jones working with drummer Danny Carey and bassist Justin Chancellor.

Tool's new studio album doesn't yet have a release date or title, but the successor to 10,000 Days (2016) is being recorded analogically by engineer Evil Joe Barresi.
