The Sword moves away from Doom Metal on new studio album; listen to Used Future

The American band The Sword released their new album, Used Future, today, the 23rd.

The thirteen tracks featured on the successor to High Country (2015) were recorded in Portland, Oregon alongside producer Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, First Aid Kit).

In an interview with Billboard, guitarist and vocalist JD Cronise revealed that the band sought to move away from Doom Metal on their new work, incorporating aspects reminiscent of Led Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, and Blackfoot.

“We need to do something that we find interesting and enjoyable,” he said, “And for me, it was getting boring always doing the same thing. Our opinions changed and evolved over time, and for me, everything we did was natural.”
