Geezer explains why he was arrested in 2015
Classic Rock interviewed Geezer Butler and asked for clarification regarding the bar fight that led to the bassist's arrest in January 2015. At the time, the musician was arrested for delinquency, public intoxication, and vandalism. Butler's statement follows:
“My sister-in-law had just died, and I had gone to Death Valley in California to forget all that. Not only that, Christmas, New Year's, all that stuff. I went to the hotel gift shop and there was a cool bar there. And I thought, 'I'll have a drink before I go to bed.' It was the strongest beer I'd ever had in my life.”.
Geezer Butler: “If Black Sabbath hadn’t worked out, I would have killed myself.”
The next thing I remember was a guy starting to complain about something. He was like a drunk Nazi. He recognized me and because I’m part of the music industry he started complaining about Jews and all that – Jews this, Jews that. My wife is Jewish and I couldn’t take it anymore, and my hand found his chin. I punched him.
Black Sabbath albums, from worst to best
I don't know what happened, but one minute I was in that bar, the next I was being arrested. I woke up in jail. That was bad enough, but waking up with a hangover was awful. I was completely embarrassed. I should have just left, but when you're drunk you don't even know what you're doing.
