During the performance, they invited Irma Thomas to the stage, which happened exactly 50 years after they both recorded their cover of Jerry Ragovoy . It was the first time they had played the version since 1998, and the second time since 1982.
“In 1964, which was a long time ago, we heard this great song on the radio by this incredible singer,” said vocalist Mick Jagger to the festival audience, introducing Thomas on stage, Rolling Stone website .
“We recorded it and it became our first hit in America. Mrs. Thomas, who wrote the song first, she’s the Queen of Soul of New Orleans! I’d love to bring her on stage now to sing the song with us.”
