During a show in Liverpool last Thursday, the 9th, the Rolling Stones paid tribute to the Beatles by performing a cover of "I Wanna Be Your Man".
The 1968 hit was originally written by John Lennon and Paul McCartney , but the Stones were the first to release a version of the song on November 1, 1963. Three weeks later, the Beatles recorded the song for their second British album, With The Beatles .
“I Wanna Be Your Man” hadn’t been performed live by the Rolling Stones since 2012 and, apparently, wasn’t even in the original plans for the night. According to NME , vocalist Mick Jagger said the band intended to play “You’ll Never Walk Alone” by Gerry and the Pacemaker , which is played before every football match in Liverpool at Anfield Stadium, where the concert took place.
Instead of sticking with the original idea, the group decided to pay homage by singing a cover of a song written by other local guys. Check out a video of the performance:
