The renowned punk rock band Os Replicantes Grande do Sul is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a special show on August 15th at Bar Opinião in Porto Alegre, bringing together all the members who have been part of its career. The show was originally scheduled for May 16th but was unfortunately postponed due to the floods that hit Rio Grande do Sul. The original date chosen was the same as the band's first performance at Bar Ocidente in 1984.
In addition to the commemorative show, the band's history was recently revisited and illustrated in an exhibition that began in March at the Museu do Trabalho in Porto Alegre. The exhibition featured displayed records, as well as old newspaper articles, song lyrics, posters, photographs, and the screening of rare videos.
The story of Os Replicantes began in the mid-80s, a great era for rock in Rio Grande do Sul. With Wander Wildner on vocals, Cláudio Heinz on guitar, Heron Heinz on bass, and Carlos Gerbase on drums, the quartet was part of the alternative and independent scene in Porto Alegre alongside bands like TNT , Garotos da Rua , and Cascavelettes .
Inspired by the British scene of The Clash and Sex Pistols , the kids began their journey in a simple and somewhat traditional way for the time: they rehearsed in drummer Gerbase's garage, even without much mastery of their instruments. The desire to make real punk without worrying about musical technique was the perfect formula for success: their first album, titled O Futuro É Vórtex (The Future Is Vortex), from 1986, was even considered one of the ten best punk rock albums in Brazil by Rolling Stone . Furthermore, they had the feat of releasing the first music video in the history of rock in Rio Grande do Sul in 1985, with "Nicotina".
Currently featuring original members Cláudio and Heron Heinz, Replicantes also includes Julia Barth on vocals and Cleber Andrade on drums, but the special show will have confirmed appearances by Wander Wildner, Carlos Gerbase, and Luciana Tomasi , who, in addition to being a producer, was the band's keyboardist.
The reunion is expected to feature the band's greatest hits, such as "Surfista Calhorda," "Ele Quer Punk," "Festa Punk," and many more. Tickets are currently in batch 6 and can still be purchased through the official Sympla website. Learn more below.
