With his first solo album on the way, Corey Taylor reflected on his career with Eddie Trunk the SiriusXM show Trunk Nation Virtual Invasion . There, he revealed that he almost recorded an album with Anthrax , but the record label didn't allow it.

After the release of We've Come For You All in 2003, Anthrax was looking for a new vocalist. The band invited Joey Belladonna to return in 2005, replacing Josh Bush , but he would end up leaving two years later, giving way to Dan Nelson .

“It was something we didn’t talk about much, actually,” he said, “It was something we thought about doing just once, but we were going to wait and see if it had a future.” The conversation started when Scott Ian and Frank Bello were in New York for an acoustic show and invited Taylor to sing with them and help promote the venue.

“So we went there, had dinner, and did the acoustic show. Then afterwards we were all talking and kind of joking around, and someone said, ‘Hey, have you ever thought how cool it would be if you joined Anthax?’ Everyone laughed and then stopped. Then everyone was like, ‘Hmm, that could be interesting.’”

He goes on to say that the band was between Joey and John, and then the conversation progressed and he started to get excited: “They sent me several songs, many of which ended up on Worship Music [from 2011] – which is great, because the music was so good.”

Taylor explains what went wrong with his plans. The day he was supposed to travel to Chicago to rehearse with Scott Ian and Charlie Benante, Roadrunner, Slipknot , called him and said they wouldn't allow him to do it. “They wanted me to go back to work on All Hope is Gone [Slipknot's 2008 album], because we had a contract for another Slipknot album and they weren't going to release me. I don't know if those people are still at Roadrunner, to be honest. But I know they were pretty direct and aggressive in that conversation.”

“It’s not that I didn’t want to do an album with Slipknot, but I was loving the idea of recording an album with Anthrax. And I even had to call the guys [from Anthrax] and tell them it wasn’t going to happen. That made me very sad,” reveals Corey, “But of course things worked out for the best for everyone (…) What needed to happen is what ended up happening. I’m very grateful to have been part of that conversation and that they are still my friends.”

Corey Taylor will release the album CMFT on October 2nd.
