The duo The Puro , formed by Noel Hogan (guitarist, co-founder and composer of The Cranberries ) and Brazilian singer Mell Peck , releases this Friday, the 17th, an acoustic version of "Prison", the first single released on digital platforms last month.
In this alternative version, the music becomes more intimate and highlights Mell's smooth vocals, while still maintaining the grandeur of Noel's production, culminating in a dramatic orchestral ending.
The collaboration between the two came about after Noel discovered Mell's videos on YouTube in 2019, through recommendations from several people who suggested the singer's work. Mell, who now lives in Porto Alegre, explains: “We met and during our conversations the idea of composing together came up. Noel sent me one of his songs for me to write the lyrics for, and I was so excited that I wrote and recorded the song in two days. Since then, we haven't stopped, and ideas are always coming. I always felt we had something in common.”
This acoustic version came about in the same way as the duo's other songs, with an extensive period of composition and remote recording, resulting in songs with versions in both Portuguese and English.
“Prison (Acoustic)” is a ForMusic Records .
