Producer Rick Rubin recently watched the Red Hot Chili Peppers perform with guitarist John Frusciante , who returned to the band in 2019. According to him, the group is "unbelievable" and he cried seeing them together again.
Tall is Jericho podcast that he attended some rehearsals for John Frusciante's return to the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Frusciante back in the group is unbelievable. I went to the first rehearsal after John was reinstated in the band and it made me cry. It was so impactful to see that group of people together again, because they made such wonderful music for so long and it really got to me in an emotional way."
He continued, trying to explain the feeling: “When Flea and John Frusciante play together, something magical happens. When Chad Smith plays with Flea and John, something magical happens. When Anthony Kiedis sings, based on what these guys play, it sounds like the Chili Peppers.”
Furthermore, he spoke about what Red Hot Chili Peppers fans can expect from the band's upcoming album. “If you like Stadium Arcadium , you might like this one. There are some flavors on this new album that, when they happen, are like: 'Oh my God – nobody sounds like this.' It's the essence of the band.”
On the other hand, the next album still doesn't have a release date. But, to reassure fans, Rick Rubin stated that "the work is in its final stages."
“The Chili Peppers have a very good habit of writing a lot of songs. If we need 12 songs for the album, they write 50, they write 100 songs to find those 12. Then, they play them for me at rehearsal and we talk about them; about the strengths and weaknesses of each one, and how to make them better and what we can do,” said Rubin.
