On Wednesday, the 9th, The Pretty Reckless released the official music video for "Only Love Can Save Me Now," a track from their most recent album, Death By Rock and Roll . The song features Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil , both from Soundgarden .
The Pretty Reckless vocalist, Taylor Momsen , spoke about the song (via Blabbermouth ): “This song was born out of tragedy and brought to life by two of my all-time favorite musicians – Matt Cameron and Kim Thayil. Hearing them play is simply surreal. This song represents having gone through the worst moment of my life and yet it’s one of the accomplishments I’m most proud of. It means there’s hope, that life has to go on and, most importantly, that life is worth living.”
Cameron and Thayil expressed their enjoyment of the experience of playing on “Only Love Can Save Me Now.” “It was super fun spending time in the studio with Taylor, Ben, and Matt,” said Kim Thayil. “[The song] has classic Soundgarden elements, and the riff would probably fit well into 'Louder Than Love.' Ben brought in some great guitar parts. They create a foundation that allows the whole song to open up with Taylor’s powerful and haunting vocals.”
Death By Rock and Roll was made during a period of mourning and grief for The Pretty Reckless, who lost their producer Kato Khandwala in 2018 after a motorcycle accident. Taylor Momsen's feelings of loss and sadness are present throughout the album, not only because of the producer's death, but also because of Chris Cornell . Another notable guest appearance on the album was by Tom Morello on the track " And So It Went ".
