The California band also talked about the style of their new album, which comes out in February.

Green Day 's new album , Father of All Mother Fuckers , will be released on February 7th . And the band's frontman , Billie Joe Armstrong, said that Kerry King of Slayer was the inspiration for the album title.

“I think it was Kerry King from Slayer – they have an album called God Hates Us All – and when asked if he thought God actually hated us all, he said, ‘I don’t know! It’s just a killer title!’ And as soon as the idea for the name came, I thought, ‘Dude, that’s really good.’”

In the interview, Armstrong also stated that he doesn't like long songs:

"I've decided I don't like long songs. If I'm listening to other bands' music, I always check the length. If it's more than 3 minutes, I skip it; I don't want to listen to that crap."

Two of Green Day's biggest hits from their 2004 album American Idiot , "Jesus of Suburbia" and "Homecoming," are over 9 minutes long.

Regarding their new album, Father of All Mother Fuckers , the band says they are mixing styles of all kinds, including 70s hip-hop and Motown.

“We don’t want to do what everyone expects us to do. So it’s going to be kind of surprising and fun,” says drummer Tré Cool .

Armstrong adds: “It’s a very fine line because we want to try new things, but we always want it to sound like Green Day, you know? So don’t worry, you won’t hear anyone rapping on Father of All Mother Fuckers .”
