David Bowie - Lazarus

The musical Lazarus, David Bowie's last work, will have a Brazilian version premiering in São Paulo

Lazarus is scheduled to premiere in August in São Paulo.

The musical Lazarus , the last work of musician David Bowie, will have a Brazilian version directed by Rio de Janeiro-based director Felipe Hirsch.

With a planned premiere on August 22nd at the Unimed Theater, rehearsals for the play begin in June, with a cast comprised of experienced and debuting actors. Some confirmed names include: Bruna Guerin, Jesuíta Barbosa, Carla Salle, Erom Cordeiro, among others. Composers Maria Beraldo and Mariá Portugal will be part of the musical direction.

Bowie composed the piece with Enda Walsh shortly before losing his battle with cancer. The story was inspired by the novel The Man Who Fell to Earth by Walter Tevis, which was adapted into a film in 1976 starring the singer.

The work was exhibited for six weeks in New York at the end of 2015 and at the beginning of the following year it moved to London, where it remained until January 2017. Its songs, also composed by the singer, were compiled and released as a posthumous album bearing the same name as the piece.
