Jay Jay French stated that Twisted Sister had no choice but to cancel their 50th-anniversary tour following the unexpected resignation of vocalist Dee Snider due to health reasons. He added that the band's future will be discussed in the coming weeks.
In a video posted on social media, the guitarist and founding manager commemorated the band's 50th anniversary and explained that, despite the desire to celebrate the milestone, Snider's failing health made it impossible to maintain the shows scheduled from April onwards, including dates in South America and Europe.
“Today is the 50th anniversary of the day Dee auditioned for the band. 1976. Here’s the diary entry: ‘Danny Snider’ — he wasn’t Dee yet — ‘auditions for Twisted Sister’, February 7, 1976. For the last 50 years, Eddie [ Ojeda , Twisted Sister guitarist] and I have been side-by-side with Dee, not in hundreds of shows, but in thousands of shows. You know that cliché in sports, when a great athlete retires, they say he gave his all on the field,” he said in the video posted last Saturday, the 7th [transcription via Blabbermouth ].
Jay Jay also explained about the band's future: “Well, I can say that, in Dee's case, he gave his all on stage. He gave it his all, and now his body is saying, 'I can't take it anymore.' And when someone tells you that, you have to accept it and move on. So please understand that it was a difficult decision, but we had no choice but to cancel those dates. As for the future of Twisted Sister, Eddie Ojeda and I will be talking in the coming weeks to discuss what options, if any, exist for us to continue.”
“Until then, know that the SMFs [short for 'Sick Mother Fucker', as the fans are affectionately called] around the world are what has kept us alive and made us continue, and we love you and will do everything we can to always live up to your expectations as fans, because nobody understands fandom better than we do. We appreciate everything you have done for us and hope to see you again in the future. Thank you,” he concluded.
The band has cancelled their highly anticipated reunion tour celebrating their 50th anniversary , which would have marked their return to the stage after a hiatus since 2016. According to the organizers of Bangers Open Air, Twisted Sister has requested to perform at the festival in 2027.
Dee Snider's illness
Dee Snider is facing health problems that are preventing him from fulfilling his planned concert schedule. “I don’t know any other way to proceed. The idea of slowing down is unacceptable to me. I’d rather retire than be a shadow of my former self,” Snider confessed.
Acid For Squares podcast , hosted by the singer's son, Cody Blue Snider , Dee Snider revealed in detail the series of health problems he has been facing. The musician deals with degenerative arthritis, which has led him to undergo several surgeries over the years.
“I’ve had some health problems. I have arthritis in my shoulders, degenerative arthritis. I had a hip replacement because of excessive wear and tear on the joints, a result of my profession, which demands too much from my body […] But, in the case of my heart, this is linked to accumulated stress over time,” revealed the vocalist.
