The Eagles officially have the best-selling album of all time in the United States. The compilation album Greatest Hits 1971-1975 surpassed Michael Jackson 's Thriller , reclaiming the top spot in sales almost a decade after the death of the King of Pop.
The RIAA (The Recording Industry Association of America) recalculated sales and certified that the album sold 38 million copies, while Jackson's album sold 33 million. Third place goes to The Eagles, with the album Hotel California , released in 1977, which has sold 26 million copies today.
“We are grateful for our families, our management, our crew, the people at the radio station and, above all, the loyal fans who have stuck with us through the highs and lows of these 46 years. It’s been quite a journey,” said Don Henley , the band’s lead singer.
