In-Edit Brasil, the country's largest music documentary festival, has made the documentary A Heavy Metal Civilization , released in Finland in 2018 by directors Maila-Kaarina Rantanen and Cristina Ornellas .

The event made room for heavy metal in its last two editions , and in its 14th edition in 2022, In-Edit Brasil and the Come To Latin America joined forces to further highlight the strong impact of heavy metal on its culture by broadcasting A Heavy Metal Civilization .

Artistic director of In-Edit Brazil and one of the judges of the competition, Marcelo Aliche commented on the partnership: “It’s always good to be able to open doors together, and the relationship between In-Edit Brazil and Come To Latin America goes in that direction. On the one hand, the film festival gives space for films like A Heavy Metal Civilization to explain the importance of the genre in Finland and helps in the dissemination of the initiative, and on the other hand, the festival gains international exposure.”

Director Maila-Kaarina, daughter of a Finnish father and a Brazilian mother, commented on the partnership: “I feel genuinely Brazilian and Finnish, my heart beats equally for both my countries, and being able to see the film we made completely independently, part of a project that unites my roots and my passions [cinema and metal], brings me an inexplicable feeling of personal fulfillment.”

A Heavy Metal Civilization was released in Finland in 2018 and tells the story of heavy metal through the bands that formed it. Several of the genre's biggest names shared their perspectives on society, religion, politics, and how an underground subculture became an important ambassador of local culture. Among the many protagonists are Marco Hietala, Eicca Toppinen, Lauri Porra , and many other prominent names in the world of metal, such as Kiko Loureiro and Scott Ian.

The film is available to watch for free on the In-Edit Brasil until August 14th.
