Just two days after The Dead Daisies released their newest album, Holy Ground , drummer Deen Castronovo revealed his departure from the band, bringing Tommy Clufetos , drummer for Ozzy Osbourne and former Black Sabbath , on board. Recently, Glenn Hughes and Doug Aldrich shared more details about Deen's departure and Tommy's return to Eddie Trunk on the show Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk .

In his statement, Deen said the decision was motivated by a desire to spend more time with his family and to take the opportunity to schedule minor back surgery, so he could get back on the road as soon as possible.

Hughes and Aldrich emphasize that the drummer's back problem was actually the main reason for his departure, “Deen was having a tough time with some back problems. We got together and played last October, and he was struggling – he was going through a difficult time. And he just said, 'Look, guys, I need to do some things and this is going to put me out of the market for a while. I know you want to move fast and you have plans to do things.' So he decided to do it.”

“Deen sang on some [songs from the Holy Ground ] with me. I wish I had Deen singing more. We have a great connection together, and you can hear it,” Glenn continues. “It’s a shame he’s not with us. But we have to keep going. And Tommy [Clufetos] is the guy.”

Glenn reveals that he never played with Tommy, but that his admiration for the musician has existed for a long time. "I met him a few times at Geezer [Butler] . I saw him play on YouTube, of course."

“I haven’t played with him, but I’ve watched him a lot, especially since he signed up,” Doug says. “And, man, it’s such a small world, Glenn played with Tony [Iommi] and Tommy played with Tony, and that feeling is very important, and Tommy understood. I think it will be an even deeper step with Tommy.”
