Anyone familiar with the genre knows that The Dead Daisies is one of the great hard rock bands of today. Formed by experienced and highly skilled musicians, The Dead Daisies found its ideal lineup on their recently released fourth album, Burn it Down . David Lowy on rhythm guitar, Doug Aldrich (ex- Dio and Whitesnake ) on lead guitar, Marco Mendoza (ex- Thin Lizzy and Black Star Riders ) on bass, the fantastic John Corabi on vocals (ex- Motley Crue and Eric Singer Project ), and the newest member of the band, the legendary drummer Deen Castronovo (ex- Ozzy , Journey , Bad English , Steve Vai ) form the dream supergroup of any true rocker.
On the evening of May 6th, Wikimetal had the pleasure of attending one of the shows on the European tour, this time in Paris, at Le Trabendo. The venue is located within the Parc de la Villette, which also houses the legendary Zenith and where the Pavillon de Paris stood before its demolition. The Pavillon de Paris was where parts of Queen 's Live Killers and AC/DC 's Let There Be Rock were recorded; nowadays it also houses the sumptuous Philharmonie de Paris building, among other museums, restaurants, and cafes.
The opening band was the competent The New Roses , a top-notch 80s hard rock act. They delivered a great opening show and warmed up the French crowd for the onslaught that followed. At exactly 9:30 PM, The Dead Daisies took the stage, opening with the heavy " Resurrected ," the first track from *Burn it Down* , before launching into the album's first single, " Rise Up ." The setlist continued with classics like "Make Some Noise" and "Mexico ." Deen Castronovo and Marco Mendoza undoubtedly form one of the greatest rhythm sections in rock. Doug Aldrich is the guitar hero every band dreams of having. Australian David Lowy holds down the rhythm section with precision. Corabi is the highlight of the show; he exudes charisma and charm, his voice is both tuned and raspy. The band is cohesive and sharp, ready for their upcoming US tour. The show also features some covers that are already a tradition in The Dead Daisies' live performances, from "Bitch" by the Rolling Stones to "Midnight Moses" by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band , and ends with the best version of "Helter Skelter" ever made, far surpassing U2 and Motley Crue's .
The following day we were invited to attend an acoustic set for 25 fans who won a radio contest at the coolest metal bar in Paris, Dr. Feelgood. The band played some songs from Burn it Down , Make Some Noise , and an impeccable version of Led Zeppelin 's Ramble On .
How great it is to see excellent musicians having fun on stage, how great it is to see an impeccable band with a killer repertoire. How great it is to see The Dead Daisies! I really hope some Brazilian promoter brings them to play shows here; the true rock fans of Brazil deserve to see this rock 'n' roll lesson and experience this band live again!
