Corey Taylor recalled during a recent interview the day he met Ozzy Osbourne and the Black Sabbath asked if he could be the tenth member of Slipknot.
Classic Rock magazine (via Louder Sound ), Taylor said the meeting took place at Ozzfest 1999 where Slipknot played. “The only reason Slipknot played at Ozzfest [in 1999] is because we were Jack [Ozzy’s son’s] favorite band. Sharon gave us a little more freedom because of that. We did some crazy things, but she’d say, ‘It’s okay, it’s Slipknot’”.
He then recounted what it was like to meet the Prince of Darkness: “I was sitting at a table with Jack, Kelly , and Sharon,” he said. “Suddenly, Ozzy appears: ‘Sharon, can you help me with my earrings?’ And Sharon says: ‘Ozzy, this is one of the members of Slipknot, it’s Corey, he’s the singer.’”
“He looks at me and says, ‘You guys are the nine-member guys? I want to be number ten!’ I was like, ‘Dude, you’re Ozzy, anything you want!’ It was like meeting Superman.”
