The day Joey Jordison, former Slipknot member, replaced Lars Ulrich at a Metallica concert.

In an interview with the Download Festival , Shawn “Clown” Crahan of Slipknot recalled the day when Joey Jordison , former Slipknot drummer, replaced Lars Ulrich at a Metallica .

The incident occurred in 2004 when Metallica headlined the festival and Lars Ulrich suffered an anxiety attack and was unable to go on stage, requiring someone to replace him. At the last minute, Dave Lombardo of Slayer showed up to help his longtime friends and played the first two songs of the set, leaving the rest to Joey Jordison, then the drummer for Slipknot.

Clown recalled the moment and said it was "probably the most memorable and favorite moment" of his career. "I enjoy seeing others do well," the musician said (via Ultimate-Guitar ), "And that makes me very happy. I love that, I love seeing people achieve what they fought so hard to get."

The musician also recalls that he tried to watch Metallica's rehearsal with Jordison that day, but he was denied entry, something he seems not to have gotten over to this day. "But in the end it was good, because I managed to turn off the camera [I was filming the rehearsal with] and just enjoy it and imagine my brother playing with Metallica."

After the performance, Metallica presented the members of Slipknot with a gift as a way of thanking them for lending their drummer during such a difficult time. It was a historic moment, both for the fans and for Jordison, who is a big Metallica admirer.
