The Darkness goes to hell in their new video “In Another Life”. The track is part of the acclaimed album Easter Is Cancelled , released via Cooking Vinyl.
“In Another Life” is a gigantic rock opera, celebrating the multiverse theory that runs through their concept album, with the music capturing love and loss. The video shows vocalist Justin Hawkins banished to hell, only to be rescued by the power of rock pulsing through his bandmates and guardians Dan, Frankie , and Rufus , and the archangel Abbey Clancy .
Regarding the video, Abbey Clancy says: “It was so much fun saving Justin from the fiery gates of hell. I’m a huge fan of The Darkness and I’m so happy they asked me to participate. The guys made the video so easy and we had so much fun on set. It looks amazing, and playing an angel was a divine way to spend the day.”
Justin continues: “These days, music videos are often an afterthought when structuring an album campaign… ‘walk towards the camera looking evil… ooh, skip this…’, the director suggests, and we obediently do it, at the cost of our dignity and self-respect. The results are invariably garbage.”
“In Kristy [ Kristy May Currie , co-director of Hells Bells], we found our savior. She came to us with a whole concept, storyboard, shooting list, and cast. All we had to do was look fabulous and ‘act.’ It was like the glorious old days when everything we did mattered enough to be done right. Kristy is brilliant and passionate, and I hope we work with her again!”
"I know from personal experience that when someone is as beautiful as Abbey Clancy, there's no obligation to be nice to anyone. There's no obligation for her to do anything; the force of her beauty will bend the universe to her will. However, she is the living embodiment of grace and kindness. Besides her brilliant acting and stunning looks, she was incredible company, and we laughed a lot all day. I'm starting to wonder if maybe she's a real angel. In any case, I'm a disciple of Clancy, and I make no apologies for it. I dedicate my life to her."
“I hope people enjoy this video, it was a thrill to make. We all insisted on doing our own stunts, so this will be The Darkness’ last music video for a while, while we explore opportunities in Hollywood.”
