The Cure won their first Grammy Awards at the 2026 ceremony, almost 50 years after their formation.
The British alternative rock band won awards in two categories: Best Alternative Music Performance for the track “Alone” and Best Alternative Music Album for the album Songs of a Lost World (2024).
In the same category of Best Alternative Music Performance, they beat Bon Iver, Turnstile, Wet Leg , and Hayley Williams. In Best Alternative Music Album, they won against Bon Iver, Tyler, The Creator , Wet Leg, and Hayley Williams – check out all the winners of the 2026 Grammys here.
Due to the recent death of guitarist Perry Bamonte , the band members were unable to attend the ceremony. However, vocalist Robert Smith sent a thank-you message, read on stage by host Jesse Welles , highlighting the work of the band and the fans.
“Simon, Jason, Roger, Reeves and I would like to thank the Grammys for this wonderful award; we are very honored to receive it.”.
“We would also like to thank everyone who helped in the creation of our album Songs Of A Lost World . In particular, co-producer Paul Corkett, everyone at Universal Music Group who worked so hard to find our 'lost world', all the members of our team, most of whom were tireless… And, most importantly, all the fans of The Cure around the world who attended our Lost World Tour and enjoyed our music. Without you, none of this would have been possible. Thank you!”, the message read [via NME ].
The victory represents a historic milestone for The Cure. The band had only been nominated twice in their entire career, in the Best Alternative Music Album category, in 1993 for Wish and in 2001 for Bloodflowers , but was unsuccessful on both occasions.
