The Cure: Robert Smith talks about the band's next steps.

Smith plans a tour for 2025, celebrations for the band's 50th anniversary, and retirement.

The Cure 's social media ( via NME ), Robert Smith , vocalist and leader of the group, spoke about the band's next steps. Smith said that the band plans to tour in 2025, which should extend until the group's 50th anniversary in 2028.

In the interview, Smith also revealed that The Cure has another new album that is "practically finished," in addition to a third one also on the way. Speaking about the band's plans for a world tour, the vocalist highlighted that he intends to finish one of the upcoming albums before returning to the stage in 2025.

“We’ll get back to it next year,” he said. “Seriously, I need to finish the second album. We had planned to play festivals next year, but I decided we’re not going to do anything in the summer. The next time we’ll be on stage will be in the fall of next year.”

He commented on the 50th anniversary of The Cure's first album, Three Imaginary Boys , which will take place in 2028. “I’m starting to get organized for that; there’s the documentary and other things. In 2029, I’ll be 70 and that will be a major milestone. If I make it that far, it will be the end. In the next few years, we’ll probably play regularly until the anniversary in 2028,” Smith said.

The guitarist also said that the last few years were the best of the band's career. "Not having a new album for so long, we managed to play around 130 to 150 different songs. Now we're a band that excels live, with the freedom to perform two-hour sets with 30 different songs each night."

New album to be released in November

Songs of a Lost World , the first album of new material in 15 years, will be released on November 1st. According to Smith, the tracks on the album were composed over the years, with five of them in 2017. So far, two singles have been released, "Alone" and "A Fragile Thing".
