The Cure releases new album after 16 years; listen to 'Songs of a Lost World'

'Songs of a Lost World' marks the long-awaited return of the iconic band led by Robert Smith.

After 16 years, The Cure finally released their new album, Songs of a Lost World , which arrived on streaming platforms last Friday, October 1st. Officially announced in September along with the single "Alone," the album marks the long-awaited return of the iconic band led by Robert Smith .

The album had been planned for quite some time. In 2022, Smith revealed the title Songs of a Lost World in an interview with NME , and even without releasing any tracks, the band began the Shows of a Lost World in 2022 and 2023, which included a stop in Brazil . During the shows, The Cure performed several unreleased songs that would be on the album, including "Alone," "Endsong," "And Nothing Is Forever," and "I Can Never Say Goodbye."

Produced by Robert Smith in partnership with Paul Corkett , Songs of a Lost World features all tracks written by Smith and is the band's first album since 4:13 Dream Reeves Gabrels ' studio debut as a guitarist and the return of keyboardist Roger O'Donnell .

Plans for a new album from The Cure

While celebrating the release of his new album, Robert Smith has shown that he is already focused on completing another album with The Cure . In a recent interview with the Consequence , the singer gave some hints about the band's next steps. "Seriously, I have to finish the second album. We were going to play festivals next year, but a few weeks ago I decided we won't do anything in the summer. The next time we're on stage will be in the fall of next year," he stated.

Smith also stated that he intends to continue performing until the band's 50th anniversary in 2029. "I'll be 70 in 2029, which will be the 50th anniversary of The Cure's first album [ Three Imaginary Boys ]. If I make it that far, that'll be the end of it. Until then, I intend to include shows in the overall plan of what we're going to do," he said.
