Lollapalooza co-founder believes concerts and festivals will only return to normal in 2022

Geiger also states that the coming months could be even worse for the music industry

Even with optimistic news about COVID-19 vaccines, big names in the music industry, such as Lollapalooza co Marc Geiger , are not very optimistic about a return to normalcy for concert and festival schedules around the world.

In an interview for the Bob Lefsetz Podcast , when asked about his prediction for the return of live shows, Geiger states that, in his humble opinion, they will only return in 2022.

“It will take a long time before what I call the germaphobic economy is slowly killed and replaced by the claustrophobic economy – that’s when people will want to go out and have dinner, have their lives, go to festivals and concerts,” Marc explains. “It’s my instinct, it will take time because these super-expansive events – sports, concerts, festivals… won’t do very well while this virus is around like this.”

The co-founder's bad predictions don't stop there; he also states that the next six months could be even more painful for the music industry, and possibly the following six months will be even worse.

Geiger's instinct aligns with numerous shows taking place while either COVID-19 prevention guidelines predictions from health experts who believe the concert calendar may return by the end of 2021 .

This year's Lollapalooza Chicago is officially cancelled, while Lollapalooza Brazil remains confirmed for December of this year.
