The definition of what constitutes a live album undoubtedly fails to capture the emotional weight that some of these historic recordings carry.
Technically, a live album consists of a recording of material (usually music) that was performed during a live show, with the intention of reproducing part of the experience of attending the concert. Therefore, these recordings may include applause and other sounds from the audience, comments from the artists between songs, improvisations, medleys, etc.
But we, lovers of Rock and Metal, know that live albums are much more than that: They have the power to transport us to the places where those memorable shows took place.
