A new documentary about the Beatles directed by Peter Jackson ( The Lord of the Rings ) is scheduled to arrive on Disney+ on November 25th. The documentary series is made from extensive archival footage captured when the band was recording the album Let It Be (1970).
In March, Ringo Starr said he found the original 1970s documentary, Let It Be , directed by Michael Lindsay-Hogg, "miserable" and devoid of joy , focusing only on a disagreement between John Lennon and Paul McCartney . "We laughed a lot," the drummer said about the time of the recording. "I was there, we were laughing, we were having fun. We were playing and doing what we did."
Starr showed a clear preference for Peter Jackson's work, saying that the new documentary is "full of fun." Recently, Lindsay-Hogg countered criticism of her work in an interview with Rolling Stone :
“Personally, I don’t care. That’s his opinion, and we all have opinions,” the director said about Ringo. “To put it bluntly, everyone has elbows and everyone has opinions. I like Ringo. And I think he hasn’t seen the film in 50 years.”
“I believe that if you haven’t seen the film in a long time and you don’t have the best memories of it, things get a little hazy in your head about what it was really like. The last time I watched it, I thought, ‘What is he talking about?’ In reality, there’s a lot of joy and connection and collaboration, and good times and jokes and affection in Let It Be ,” he argued.
