Combine all the stereotypes associated with heavy metal: leather clothing, epic tone in the songs, heroism, and, above all, lots of noise. Now, mix all that with a historical Conan the Barbarian-style look, and you have one of the most controversial bands in heavy metal history, Manowar .
Formed in the 1980s, the group can be considered part of power metal, a style that developed in Europe bringing a melodic aspect to the treatment of epic and medieval themes. On the other side of the ocean, in New York, Manowar created its own sound and became the "loudest band" in the world.
Whether it's true or not is of little importance, as their fans follow them because of the strong themes, and for this very reason, many still question the band's seriousness. "Is Manowar a serious band?" The question arose in an internet music forum, and no conclusion was reached. While many defended the band's seriousness and authenticity, many believe that there's no point in a real band taking epic themes so seriously.
Regardless of all that, Manowar is a great band and their legacy will endure, one way or another. That said, below we've compiled the group's best songs to celebrate their career. Which is your favorite? Did we miss any? Let us know in the comments what you think.
